A rotor shaft is by definition, the axis round which the major rotor of a helicopter turns. They can be found in two positions on a helicopter, both on the main rotor blade and also on the tail, where they are an important and integral part of the operational set up. The main rotor is key in the transference of the power from the engine to the blades and is therefore critical to the actual working of the entire mechanism. The tail rotor, whilst being smaller, is also critical to the running of the helicopter as it powers the tail section of the helicopter and helps maintain the flight and manoeuvrability.
